Special Agro Processing Zones (SAPZ)
Special Agro Processing Zones (SAPZs) are an integrated development initiative aimed at concentrating agro-processing activities within areas of high agricultural potential to boost productivity and integrate production, processing and marketing of selected commodities.
SAPZs aims to address important challenges that hinder the development of competitive and inclusive agribusiness value chains by concentrating agro-processing activities within areas of high agricultural potential, in order to boost productivity and integrate production, processing and marketing of selected commodities. This involves investments in hard and soft infrastructure both at the upstream (to boost productivity) and at the downstream (to boost efficiency of value addition). SAPZs are designed to be private sector led but public sector enabled. The ultimate aim of SAPZ is to turn the African rural landscapes into economic zones of prosperity by creating decent jobs and thereby laying the foundation for Africa’s agro-industrialization and contributing to lifting millions of Africans out of poverty.
